Cell proliferation/viability was slightly decreased by moderately rough surfaces, whereas no effect of surface material was observed. Cell morphology was strikingly different between differently treated surfaces on machined surfaces, cells had elongated morphology and were attached along the grooves, whereas on moderately rough surfaces, cells were randomly attached. Surface roughness had a more pronounced effect on the gene expression compared to the surface material. The expression of FAK, α-SMA, ITG-β4, ITG-α5, and ITG-α6 was enhanced by moderately rough surfaces compared to smooth surfaces. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, it can be concluded that the behavior of primary hGFs is primarily affected by surface structure, whereas no apparent advantage of Zr over Ti could be observed.Total serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) is elevated in multiple allergic diseases and is considered a good predictor of atopy. Several studies have been performed on the association of IgE levels with the polymorphism of the ADAM33 gene in asthmatic patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is an association between IgE levels and the genetic polymorphisms of the ADAM33 gene (T1, T2, T + 1, V4, S1, S2, and Q-1) in both healthy and asthmatic patients among Jordanians. The clinical data were collected for this case-control study from 267 asthmatic patients and 225 control subjects. Seven genetic polymorphisms (T1, T2, T + 1, V4, S1, S2, and Q-1) of the gene ADAM33 were analyzed using the polymerase chain reaction/restriction fragment length polymorphism method. The minor alleles (G) of T1, (A) of T2, T + 1, and (G) of V4 polymorphisms were associated with a significant increase in total serum IgE levels in adults but not children. The V4 genetic polymorphism, however, showed a significant association with IgE levels in both adults and children. The S1 polymorphism was significantly associated with the codominant module only in the adults. The S2 polymorphism showed a significant association (p-value less then 0.05) in both codominant and recessive models. However, in the dominant model for both pediatric control and asthmatic patients, the association between the IgE and S2 polymorphism was insignificant (p-value = 0.7271 and 0.5259, respectively). This study found a statistically significant association between multiple ADAM33 genetic polymorphisms and IgE levels. Such findings add to the growing evidence that the ADAM33 gene has a major impact on IgE levels among asthmatic patients of Jordanian origin.Tailored therapies based on the identification of molecular targets currently represent a well-established therapeutic scenario in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. A novel composite nanosystem (CN), consisting of chitosan-coated Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (c-SLN) embedded in O-carboxymethyl chitosan (O-CMCS)-containing nanofibers (NFs), was proposed as a potential tool for the local delivery of lipophilic anti-proliferative drugs. Coacervation was selected as a solvent-free method for the preparation of stearic acid (SA) and behenic acid (BA)-based SLN (SA-SLN and BA-SLN respectively). BA-SLN, containing 0.75% w/w BA sodium salt and 3% w/w poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), were selected for the prosecution of the work since they are characterized by the lowest size functional to their subsequent coating and incorporation in nanofibers. BA-SLN were coated with chitosan (CS) by means of a two-step coating method based on the physical absorption of positively charged CS chains on the SLN negative surface. Nile Red (NR), chosen as the hydrophobic model dye, was dissolved in a micellar solution of BA sodium salt and then added with a coacervating solution until pH ? 2.5 was reached. The aim of this study was to assess the level of stress among dental students while performing specific dental procedures.
A survey was conducted among 257 participants. We used an original questionnaire, which consisted of 14 questions assigned to three categories I-Diagnosis, II-Caries Treatment, and III-Endodontic Treatment. Each participant marked their perceived level of stress during the performed dental treatment procedures. The scale included values of 0-6, where 0 indicates no stress, while 6 indicates high stress.
Third- (p=0.006) and fourth-year (p=0.009) women were characterized by a higher level of perceived stress during dental procedures related to caries treatment. Caries treatment procedures were the most stressful for 18.3% of third-year students, 4.3% of fourth-year students, and 3.2% of fifth-year students. Furthermore, 63.4% of third-year students, 47.3% of fourth-year students, and 17.2% of fifth-year students indicated that they felt a high level of stress when performing endodontic procedures.
